The Green Mile

On Friday 2nd September, Steve Rysdale the Managing Director of Engineering Design Practise (EDP), Mike Melling a Senior Mechanical Engineering at EDP and six other friends of EDP took part in ‘The Green Mile’ a challenge that they would never forget.
The cyclists were named ‘Team Renewables’ and they took to the challenging hills of Cornwall and Devon and biked over 170 Miles for Charity. The Green Mile started at Lands end in Cornwall and finished at the Lansdowne pub in Dawlish, with some of Britain’s most challenging hills in-between. Each day Team renewables tackled around sixty miles of these hills. Dave Sims, a member of team renewables said: “If we were riding down a hill, I wasn’t happy as I knew in about 30 seconds I would be riding up another hill.”
As Engineering Design Practise (EDP) pride themselves on being a leader in providing environmentally friendly M & E services throughout the South West, they were keen to show that rising awareness of the environment outside of the workplace. The nominated charity for the bike ride is The Wooden Spoon Charity, which helps disadvantaged and young children to help them get active and involved in sporting activities (especially rugby) throughout the region. ‘The Green Mile’ has raised £2585 so far and there is still money being donated now.
Team Renewables completed the three day challenge and celebrated their hard work in Lansdowne pub with an enjoyable cold pint. Steve Rysdale the MD of EDP and the reason why ‘The Green Mile’ was able to take place said: “it was one of the most challenging rides of my life; I had forgotten how many hills there were in Cornwall!”
